How to find your weakest HYROX station
Updated · Rivo
Your weakest HYROX® station is the one where your split is furthest behind the median athlete who finished in the same five minutes as you: set your eight station splits beside your bracket’s medians below, and the biggest gap, in seconds, is the station costing you the most time. For Open men who finished in 1:30:00–1:34:59 in the 2025/26 season, the medians were 7:46 on the wall balls, 6:03 on the burpee broad jumps and 5:18 on the sled pull; for Open women in the same bracket, 6:26, 6:24 and 5:32.
Your own bracket is the fair comparison because everyone in it finished as fast as you did: where you sit far behind them, you lost time that athletes of your level didn’t. Below: the method in six steps, the medians for every bracket from sub 60 to past two hours, how big a gap has to be to matter, what to do once you know, and how to find it before your first race. Every median comes from 702,095 public HYROX results with all 16 splits.
How do you find your weakest HYROX station?
Compare each station split from your last race with the median of athletes in your division, sex and five-minute finish bracket, then rank the differences. You need one race result and the tables below.
- Get your splits. Your published HYROX result lists all 16 splits and your roxzone time. Take the eight station times.
- Find your bracket. Round your finish down to five minutes: any finish from 1:30:00 to 1:34:59 is in the 1:30 bracket. Use the table for your division and sex, because the loads differ: the men’s sled push is 202 kg (445 lb) in Pro against 152 kg (335 lb) in Open, sled included.
- Subtract. Your split minus the bracket median, station by station. A plus means you were slower than the middle athlete of your finish time.
- Rank the pluses in seconds. The largest is your costliest station and the next is your second: those two are what to train first.
- Check how far off you are. Compare each gap with how much that station’s median moves from one bracket to the next, below.
- Do the same for the runs and the roxzone. Running is the largest part of the race, so check it before blaming a station.
What are the median station times for each finish time?
The tables give the median time on every station for each five-minute finish bracket: the time the middle athlete of that bracket took. Find your row and subtract it from your own splits; the stations run left to right in race order, so on a phone the table scrolls sideways.

The middle athlete of each five-minute finish bracket, station by station. HYROX season 2025/26: 15,168 results with all 16 splits.
A median is the middle athlete on that station alone, so a row’s eight medians don’t add up to its finish. That doesn’t matter here: each station is compared on its own. The splits guide has the averages, which do add up.
How big does a gap have to be to matter?
Rank by seconds, because a second lost on the SkiErg costs the same as one lost on the wall balls; then compare each gap with the step between brackets to see how unusual it is. From the 1:25:00–1:29:59 bracket to the 1:30:00–1:34:59 bracket, the Open men’s median wall balls grew by 38 seconds, the burpee broad jumps by 25 and the sled pull by 20, but the SkiErg by only 4 and the row by 6.
So a 30-second gap on the wall balls is less than one bracket’s worth of wall balls, while 30 seconds on the SkiErg is close to the whole SkiErg difference between Open men who finished forty minutes apart: 35 seconds from the 1:10:00–1:14:59 bracket to the 1:50:00–1:54:59 bracket. Open women show the same pattern: from the 1:25 to the 1:30 bracket their median wall balls grew by 31 seconds and their SkiErg by 6.
The stations that separate brackets most, the wall balls, the burpee broad jumps, the sandbag lunges and the sled pull, are where most of the difference between finishes sits. What each station adds to every five minutes of finish time is on the station times guide.
What should you do about your weakest station?
Give it, and your second-weakest, four weeks of focused work instead of training all eight stations equally every week. That is the rule athletes’ own race reports point to: the two weakest stations per four-week block, inside a week that still runs at least three times.
- Once a week, a station session for your two stations at your division’s race load. Every load is on the HYROX weights guide in kg and lb.
- Once a week, a compromised run: station work, then 1 km straight after it, repeated. In the race, every run after the first starts that way.
- Keep the long run at least 48 hours away from a sled session, and never put a quality run the day after heavy legs.
- Check again after the block or your next race. When your two stations change, the block changes with them.
How the week fits together is in how to train for HYROX, and what a beginner’s training week needs sets out the session types around your two stations. The sled push and wall balls guides go deeper on two of the eight.
What if running is your weakest part?
Then it comes before any station: the eight runs are 47% of the average Open man’s finish and 48% of the average Open woman’s, more than all eight stations together. Open men in the 1:30:00–1:34:59 bracket had a median of 43:46 for the eight runs, 5:28 per km (8:48 per mile).
Compare your eight runs with your bracket’s the same way; the running pace chart has the pace of every bracket. Running is trained every week whatever your two stations are: at least three runs, one of them straight off a station. Check the roxzone too: the median Open man in the 1:30 bracket spent 7:49 there, and it counts like any station.
Which station am I worst at if I haven’t raced yet?
Without race splits there is nothing to compare directly, so it has to be estimated. Rivo’s free Number is the shortcut: from a 5 km time and your sled push and sled pull times, or a published result you claim, it predicts your finish with its range and names the stations costing you the most time, in seconds, with no account. From three numbers, the six stations you didn’t time are estimated from athletes who run as fast as you; claim a past race and all eight are your own.
Station times from training need care: a station done fresh is not a race split, because in the race every station comes straight after a 1 km run. The time predictor guide explains how a prediction accounts for that.
Does this work for HYROX Doubles?
Not from a team’s splits. In Doubles both partners run every 1 km and the pair splits each station however they like, so a team’s station time doesn’t show which partner is slower; time each partner alone in training instead. Team splits by finish time are on the doubles guide.
Where do these medians come from?
From 702,095 public HYROX results of the 2025/26 season, each with all 16 splits: every cell is the middle athlete of a real group of finishers.
- Source: 702,095 public HYROX results from 98 venues in the 2025/26 season, read through pyrox-client, an independent open-source client, and loaded on 2 September 2026. Only results with all 16 splits and a finish between 40 and 300 minutes count.
- Brackets are five minutes wide. The 1:30:00–1:34:59 bracket holds every finish from 1:30:00 up to, not including, 1:35:00.
- Medians, not averages: each cell is the middle athlete of the bracket on that station alone. Every bracket mixes all the season’s venues.
- Small groups are left out. A bracket with fewer than 50 results shows no times, and every table states how many results sit behind it.
- Nothing here describes one athlete: only counts and medians of groups, never a name or a single result.
